Album Notes
Fred Jacobs is a jazz trumpet player, arranger and composer, who has toured all over with some great jazz legends, including Lionel Hampton, Eddie Palmieri and Buddy Rich. His debut CD, TIME CHANGE, charted #22 with The Gavin Report and was an R&R 60% jazz breaker. His latest work in progress, Jacobs' Ladder, is due out soon.

Jacobs' first lead CD, TIME CHANGE, featured superb rhythm sections, both acoustic , Romero Lubambo and Rufus Reid, and electric, Chuck Loeb and Troy Millard; Dave Kikoski played keyboards and Bill Stewart drums throughout. Scott Kreitzer's reeds shared the front line with Jacobs, whose moving, exciting, and widely varied compositions took center stage.

Some of the jazz venues Fred's band has appeared at include Birdland, Sweet Basil, Visiones, & Trumpets. He has performed with Hampton's band at Newport, NY, Carnegie Hall, with the Harrell/Jones band at the Village Vanguard & Gullivers.

TIME CHANGE - Fred Jacobs | M/Art
"Fred Jacobs is a deft and versatile trumpeter who covers a lot of ground on TIME CHANGE. He dives right into the title track, sounding as bright and assured as Freddie Hubbard or Woody Shaw, but with verve and a smooth, fluent originality."
-Robert Spencer,
"Tom Harrell, surely the major figure in Jacobs' pantheon of influence although careful listening may reveal traces of Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw and of course Miles Davis. ... Jacobs concentrates on melody, symmetry and beauty of tone rather than macho displays of speed, volume and pitch."
-Krinn Gabbard, Cadence
"Jacobs displays a solid, straight-up sound and compositional skills... he illustrates the idea that the trumpet's magic power is not limited to those who have gained sufficient recognition to make the covers of magazines."

. . . aludes to time zone changes while jetting from place to place
Get the feeling of shifting gears that alludes to time zone changes while on the road or jetting from one place to another, as you will see in the graphic design on the CD back cover. Hear "Ahmed' and recognize Jamal. Feel Fred's spiritual influence of Coltrane in "Grace". Feel the lyrical sense in his "Contempo". Discover Fred's romantic side in "Ruby My Dear".
