ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Starbound is an instrumental CD. It is ranked #2 for the month of February on the New Age Reporter radio airplay chart. It got more rating points than the number #1 ranked CD got for the month of January. Part of the CD was recorded by one of the top recording studio orchestras in Nashville.

Starbound combines varying elements of new age, classical, and popular music. It is very melodic.

David Oldham hosts a new age radio program at WQFS 90.9 in North Carolina. He has one of the largest new age music audiences in the U.S. He sent me an e-mail and said “I do a new age radio show called ‘MUSIC TO HEAL THE HEART', which is the only new age radio show in the state of North Carolina. Recently, I heard some of your music…….and enjoyed it so much that I would like to get some of it from you to include on a future show. At present, I am focusing on great new age composers and I feel your music could make a tremendous contribution to the show’s format.”

Absolutely Awe-Inspiring Music
This music is wonderfully written and had MANY variations. I listen to this nearly every day, it's THAT good. Perfect music to draw, write, work to.

Addictive, soothing music that draws up emotions using a classical flavor
Starbound is not Yanni or Enya - it's far superior. You can tell Fred Lykes has a true sense of how to write music that not only surrounds you, but enters your very being. Every track on this CD is remarkable, my favorites being tracks 6 and 9.

Powerfully Beautiful
This music, though tremendously strong and powerful, is silky smooth and sweet. It is thorougly uplifting and exciting.

Like Satie on Paxil: creative, yet joyful and balletic
The orchestration is lovely, romantic (in the TRUE sense, think Andre Previn), smooth and soothing. Oboes are handled well. So many songs are in waltz (3/4) time that the entire compilation has a balletic quality. Unlike most New Age stuff, the sound is not dominated by synthesizers, chakra bells or weird noises, yet the texture remains interesting, not Muzaky. Sometimes the music is lush, sometimes outer-spacey and sometimes sparse with an Asian feel to it. Impressionistic music lovers: if you like Debussy, Ravel & Satie, you will appreciate this work.
I wish Satie could measure it with a motodynamophone.

Walt Hutchins

Dreamy, Relaxcing, imaginative
This CD is wonderfully written. I draws the listener into it and takes them to another time and places in distant outpost of the mind. The Moonlight Dance in particular was also very romantic and relaxing. It is a beautiful catalyst for... what lies ahead.

Stopped what I was doing when I first heard his music
Rarely do I hear music that makes me put down what I'm working on to just stop and listen. But Fred Lykes' music does just that for me. If ever I could have a soundtrack that played in my life and followed me around wherever I went, this would be it. His music makes me feel like a kid at the movies again - full of wide-eyed wonder. His music makes me want to take on something bigger than myself. It makes me believe that anything is possible.

Fantastic CD
Fantastic CD. Literally transforms me onto a journey of relaxation, peacefulness and tranquility. My spirit floats
along the clouds with the music, uplifiting, calming, and
refreshing. This CD is highly recommended for anyone who uses music therapy for pain management, or just needs a boost.
