ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Amy Gallatin, born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, lived in several states before settling in the West, where she was raised. During her ten years in Idaho and Montana, she had had the good fortune of being able to work at two of her loves in life: horses and music; Amy helped to organize the horseback riding programs and was the featured entertainer at various guest ranches. Her performing background had been as a solo artist out West prior to her meeting some Connecticut musicians while wintering in New England in 1992.

With that Connecticut connection came the opportunity to tour as a working unit, so Amy packed her guitar and moved east in the fall of 1993 to pursue her music. Four albums later (including a live album and a project recorded in Nashville with ace producer Rich Adler), Amy Gallatin and her band Stillwaters have taken the stage at some of the most prestigious venues in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. They were invited in 1996, '98, and 2003 to tour several European countries. Their most recent performances in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark drew extremely enthusiastic crowds at house concerts, music clubs, theaters, country & bluegrass festivals, and National Radio. Amy & Stillwaters represented the United States as the featured performers at the European World of Bluegrass convention in The Netherlands in May '98.

Amy is at home singing various musical styles -- country, folk, bluegrass or western swing--branding each song with soulful sincerity. Her influences are diverse, ranging from old and contemporary cowboy tunes learned out West, to great country artists like Emmylou Harris, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, and the Everly Brothers, with even a dash of blues influence thrown in--Koko Taylor, Katie Wilson, BB King, and Shemekiah Copeland. She currently performs with renowned Dobroist Roger Williams, formerly with Southern Rail, Salamander Crossing, and White Mountain Bluegrass.

Live in Europe, recorded in The Netherlands, is Amy's first live concert release. This project contains material recorded during tours of Europe in 1996 & 1998, including selectionsfrom the European World of Bluegrass Convention and the Big Bear Festival in Holland. In the few years since, there have been changes in band personnel and, of course, the song repertoire has grown. Amy says, "...Although there have been changes, those earlier years are still very much a part of who I am, musically and personally. Having the opportunity to tour Europe was -- and still is -- a dream come true for me, light years away from singing on the porch of the Idaho Rocky Mt. Ranch watching the sun go down behind the Sawtooth Range, or riding up to my gig at the Lone Mt. Ranch North Fork Cabin in the horse-drawn sleighs in the bitter cold of a Montana January night. This album is for those of you -- on both sides of the Big Pond -- who have supported us through the years with your incredible enthusiasm and "positivity". And for those of you who have asked me to record a song with yodeling, there's a couple in here for you too."

"Live in Europe is a wonderful, joyous recording. I couldn't bear to do it the disservice of trying to listen and work at the same time. I'm going to drive home with it on loud where I can enjoy it with my full auditory attention...it's super; the kind of thing that is fresh and exciting enough to make me want to keep pickin', and spinning 'em on Saturday mornings!"

It's like having a concert in my living room every time I play this CD.
Although live albums can be chancey undertakings this one is a thing of beauty. I love Useful Girl. What a terrific rendition of this haunting song. From the opening notes of Blue Yodel through the final strains of Cowboy's Sweetheart this album makes you feel like Amy is right in your living room.
