Kali Yuga: The Age of Chaos, is a full-length dramatic dance work that includes a thirty-musician bronze gamelan orchestra, poetry, song, ambient sound, and video installations. A deep artistic response to recent world conflicts, and inspired by the ancient texts of the Mahabharata, Kali Yuga is the creation of an international team of artists, including Ellen Sebastian Chang (director), Wayan Dibia (choreographer), Goenawan Mohamad (poet), Wayne Vitale, Made Arnawa, and I Dewa Putu Berata (musicians/composers), three artists—Elaine Buckholtz (multimedia design), Jack Carpenter (lighting designer) and Jay Cloidt (sound design artist) and dancers Tjokorda Isteri Putra Padmini, I Ketut Rina, I Made Moja, Ni Luh Estiti Andarawati, Emiko Saraswati Susilo, I Wayan Dibia, Rose Nisker, Rashidi Omari Byrd, and Christina Sunardi.

ABOUT GAMELAN SEKAR JAYA
Gamelan Sekar Jaya (GSJ) is a sixty-member company of musicians and dancers, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializing in the performing arts of Bali. GSJ’s music and dance range from traditional Balinese repertoire to cutting-edge compositions. The sixty plus company of musicians and dancers of GSJ play on several sets of Balinese instruments, consisting of various combinations of bronze-keyed metallophones, bamboo marimbas, gongs, drums, and flutes. Gamelan Sekar Jaya is the only foreign group to ever receive the Dharma Kusuma, Bali's highest award for artistic achievement. The company is renowned for its exploration of traditional and modern forms through long-term residencies with Bali's finest musicians and dancers. Formed in 1979, the orchestra has performed in various settings and venues from the bustling village squares in Bali to the famed Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
