Gareth Davies-Jones & Calum Stewart : North by East

North By East is the result of a collaboration between singer-songwriter Gareth Davies-Jones and flautist Calum Stewart. Gareth was born and raised in the North East of Ireland and now lives in the North East of England, Calum is originally from the North East of Scotland and has worked extensively in the North East of England. Taking songs and tunes from each of these three distinctive regions of the British Isles Gareth and Calum have put together an evocative and compelling album that will take you on a musical journey through the North Country.

Combining Folk, Americana, Roots and Acoustic traditions Irish-born singer-songwriter Gareth Davies-Jones demonstrates an honesty, depth and passion with his beautifully arranged and evocative songs. Compelling you to listen to each word sung and every note strummed his powerful and strong lyrics bring affecting stories laced with social and political observations. Alongside solo tours, other collaborations include tours with Yvonne Lyon and Megson and support work for Karine Polwart, Phil Beer, Waterson Carthy, Steve Tilston, Paul Field and Coco Mbassi.

Calum Stewart
 A leading instrumentalist in contemporary traditional, British Isles, European and World music, Calum Stewart has established his own unique and appealing style. His fluid and haunting Wooden Flute playing draws out a fresh and invigorating sound which nevertheless captures the spirit of the tradition. Calum plays and collaborates with other contemporary acoustic and folk acts such as Mabon, Manran, Heikki Bourgault and Maes Iago.
