ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Lighting the Dark is an appreciation of life. An emotional journey –beauty is found everywhere, love is won and lost, and hearts once shattered somehow find a way to mend. Gary Bloom sings it all. His original music is raw with simple emotion.
Whether he is singing about the kind of love that reaches in and wraps around a person’s soul as in “Dream Girl” or reveling in the innocence that a child brings to your life in “Hailey Girl” Bloom’s reflective lyrics draw you in. All relationships are on display here; lovers, friends and family.

Bloom grew up the older brother in a close-knit family of four. Extended family and friends have always been a huge part of his life, and it’s these bonds that permeate his music. Instrumental interludes with his father, Howie, as lead guitarist and brother, David on drum pulsate the message of each song. The listener remains captivated.
From the outset, with “Added Impulse”, Blooms honesty is evident. His approach to life is shown in the upbeat music. Amazingly enough, a similar upbeat tune is found in “Remembering Jordan”, a tribute to a friend who took his own life. The tragedy of it all is made painfully clear in the lyrics, but the hope of tomorrow comes through in the music. This unbelievable juxtaposition works, and it works well.

Lighting the Dark is a lantern into Bloom’s heart.

A Short Bio about the Artist
Growing up with a father who was a part time musician, Gary Bloom was weaned on such greats as The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and The Who. His teenage years found him rocking out to such great artists as Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Foo Fighters and the like. With artists such as these his influences, he discovered music as a way to deal with the good and bad.

Lighting the Dark is The Gary Bloom band’s first cd. Bloom’s dad, Howie, brother, Dave and friend, Doug Johnston comprise the rest of the band. Located in Orange County, New York, The Gary Bloom Band can be seen at any number of venues in the area. With life providing daily inspirations, a second Gary Bloom album is currently in the works.

Loved it -- and this from someone who is not usually a rock fan. Thoughtful lyrics, great rhythms. Especially like the acoustic guitar bits. It's on my MP3 and my office computer!
