Album Notes
I'm excited about having my CD finished and available to fans of traditional country music. I have written songs in the past for country stars Charley Pride and Wynn Stewart, some of which are included on this CD. If you purchase the full CD, there is even a bonus track with a tribute and thanks to Charley Pride for recording my songs, especially this one, which I wrote expressly for his wife, Rosine. Thanks to all of you who still love true country music, which is exactly what I am, as you will soon discover should you purchase my product! If you like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Johnny Paycheck, Charley Pride and Wynn Stewart, I think you will like my songs.

Real Country from one of the best!!
As a long time country music fan and record collector I sometimes come across records and artists that creates a lasting impression on me!
This is the case when it comes to Gary McCray! Years ago I bought a 45 on Soundwaves Records. The title 'I Found Heaven In A Texas Honky-Tonk' caught my attention and I knew from the title that this must be real country music. The kind of country I like the best. I dropped the needle on the vinyl and the song started... Wow! What a song and what a great singer. From then on I started searching for more records by my new-found favorite. I found records on small labels like Compo and Dee Jay but I didn’t find much.
2013 would change that. In my search for music by Gary McCray I discovered a whole cd of new music. ‘Singin’ Like A Cowboy In A Rock ‘n’ Roll Band’ produced by Ernie Rowell.
Rowell is fantastic songwriter and wrote one of my favorite songs by Gene Watson ‘What She Don’t Know Won’t Hurt (...But It’s Destroyin’ Me)’. Listening to Gary’s cd I understand he is not only a good songwriter but also a heck of a good producer!
On this new cd by Gary he is keeping it country with roots deep down in country music history but at the same time this is music for 2013. All songs written by the man himself.
Songwriting is not a new thing for Gary. Under his belt he has songs recorded by Wynn Stewart and Charley Pride.
Drinking songs is not strange subject in country music. Usually the songs are about drinking beer and whiskey but ‘World’s Greatest Lover’ is one of very few countrysongs about drinking rum. A well-written song about drinking rum and reading the bible! this is NOT a typo! ...Captain Morgan and the bible, but not at the same time! Check out the song. One of my favorite tracks.
Other subjects are cowboys, honky tonks, love, living out in the country, momma and heaven to mention a few. He even mention my favorite Lefty Frizzell in one of the songs!
Gary has a rare songwriting gift in putting the life of you and me into songs. When I think about Gary McCray the songwriter, my thoughts goes to other great songwriters like Wayne Kemp, Larry Kingston, Tommy Collins and Merle Haggard! When you see those names in the song credits you know for sure this must be a good song!
Among the musicians I’d like to mention Mike Johnson on steel. What a fantastic steel-player.
I highly recommend this cd to fans of real country music! This is the way all country music albums should sound. Thanks to Gary McCray for giving us half an hour of good country music in a time we all need a reminder of what that’s all about.
