ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes

Ornette Coleman is to free jazz what LETTINGO is to Ornette Coleman. Finally, here’s a tribute to the free jazz master that offers up more than rehashed tunes and bits of nostalgia, lived or imagined, while also artfully avoiding being yet another chaos-and-dissonance, all-out-angular interpretation of the man’s contribution. Rather, Montreal guitarist/composer/arranger Gary Schwartz has managed to capture the essence that is Ornette Coleman, concatenating within his project the feel of an era that still persists today with the intricate aspects that have singularized Coleman’s music since the 60’s, providing all the basics in an engaging, oftentimes humorous package that offers tightly-written, complexly-orchestrated yet wholly current and accessible free jazz.
