ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
These 14 Funky Grooves cover a span of a number of years and were always an escapism from songwriting for Gavin.
Growing up, playing horn in a Soul/Funk band surrounded by amazing musicians and learning the ropes was as awe inspiring as being introduced to early funk on deleted vinyl and tape by the more mature members of the band!!!!,and new friends along the way.
This is the result.

You can hear some of this material on the Amazing "A Funk Above The Rest" WWW.KUVO.ORG (Jazz 89) Saturday night 11-1am Radio Show hosted by Skip Reeves, as a copy is being worn out by the Funktologist himself! -Tracks are being played from Saturday 7th April, so go get yo Chocolate Chunk o' Funk On!
This CD is now also avilable through Skip's own website:
www.afunkabovetherest.com for further distribution, at the same price as cdbaby.
More airplay has been confirmed by the PRINCE endorsed radio show "The Upper Room" With host Joe Kelly ( http://www.upperroomwithjoekelley.com/listen.htm )
and in the process of consideration for many others.
More News on this as it happens.

Gavin's other solo instrumental album here on cdbaby and on itunes download is "Oriental Elements".

Gavin is also involved in 4 Other albums here on cdbaby which were Written & Performed with Harry Knight. He has Arranged & Produced all the material which is available on itunes downloads:
"Swings & Roundabouts" by Roarin' Greedients (2005)
(aka Knight & Stephens)
"The Sutton Lane Suite" by Knight & Stephens (2006)
"Songs For Other Singers" by Knight & Stephens (2006)
"Songs For Other Singers Vol.2 by Knight & Stephens (2007)

Another instrumental offering can be heard with the Poetry of Fred, incorporated on his CD "I Can't Believe I'm Not Buddha". This 29 track album uses original Instrumentals as a backdrop for Fred's Poetry. You can hear samples and request a copy through www.myspace.com/limbopoet or request a copy through oceanoftunes@btinternet.com if you're not a member of myspace.
A compilation of vocal pop songs will follow later this year as a 3rd solo project.

A Super Freakin' Fab CD.
Bringing the flavour of funky flares and freaky afros for your entertainment and enjoyment. If you like your music good and funky then you'll love this. A real good time disc with more than a nod in the direction of Prince and Curtis Mayfield. You'll love it. I do.

A cream horn of plenty for your pleasure!
I eclair this cd well and truly open to anyone with a funky bone in their body.A fudgetastic melting pot of musical styles and influences. There's even a touch of Jackson's Thriller on track 12.It's foot stomping stuff so go listen, now!

Concetta

Man Alive! This is funky!
An explosion of chunky, funky sounds. This made me swing bits I haven't gyrated in a long time, oh am I going to ache in the morning! You can't help but shake your thing to these exquisite tunes; play it loud and let the music take over. This is seriously good stuff and well worth listening to over and over again. It makes you feel mighty sexy, get those gold spangled pants on and get down!

Jem

how fresh is your home?
Filled with funky synths, horns, hammondesque breaks, bouncing bass lines and some killer guitar this album showcases Stephens' ability to groove with the best of them and still maintain his trademark attention to melody. This selection eats, sleeps and defunkates it's influences-shades of James Brown, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Parliament and even the Blockheads are evident in this wonderful collection of uplifting grooves. Jazz, Rock, Funk, & Pop are all here- if you can't find something here to tickle your funky bone then you had better call the undertaker before you start stinking the place up!!!!
