Raised in a well known Irish musical family, (he is the nephew of the late tenor Frank Patterson), he began playing music at the age of 3, and started cello lessons at the age of 6. He has made, many broadcasts for RTE and BBC radio, and is a member of Camerata Ireland, performing extensively in Europe and America with Barry Douglas. Gerald has made several concerto performances with the RTE NSO and the RTE Concert Orchestra, and has recently appeared as soloist with tenor Paul Byrom.
