Album Notes
Every time you enter a disco specialized in salsa music, wherever in the world, you will assuredly listen to 'el grupo Niche', and you would know they are from Colombia. You will also hear ‘el Gran Combo’, and know they're from Puerto Rico. And you will hear ‘Los Van Van’ and recognize them as Cuban. But should you hear this CD you will realize that it is Venezuela which is present. I succeeded in combining the traditional Venezuelan themes of among others Simon Diaz and Aldemaro Romero with the swing of salsa and Cuban music. But in doing so I did not forget the Venezuelan tradition, represented in this CD by a "Gaita Zuliana" and a "Tambor de Barlovento". For me it would be very important that when hearing this CD, anywhere on the globe, you would say.....ah, that is Gerardo Rosales, from Venezuela!......’Let's dance’.

Venezuela Sonora is a CD full of joy that invites you to dance. It has a variety of rhythms with different voices, full of personality. "La Mano en el Moño" and "Tumba y Bongo" are both interpreted by Carlos 'el Niche' Gonzales, who with his rhythmical voice reminds you of the 'soneros' of yesteryears. "De Venezuela para el mundo", a 'son' performed by the legendary 'Watussi', who pays tribute to the real 'rumberos' by heart. Daniel Somaroo, the ex-singer of Guaco, enjoys this gaita, a Venezuelan rhythm with a great future. "Brujeria", "Chivo Cubano", and "Chivo Venezolano" are three themes for the demanding dancer. "Culo e Puya pa'l mundo", the African-Venezuelan rhythm full of humor and happiness. "Quinta Anauco", the theme in which virtuous Cuban flutist Orlando 'Maraca' Valle stands out, supported by Orlando Poleo at the congas. "Popurri del tio Simon", a deserved tribute to the great Venezuelan composer Simon Diaz interpreted by Freddy Nieto, an indirect disciple of Oscar D'Leon, and the brilliant voice of Javier Plaza culminate this cd full of Venezuelan-ness.
