‘Lavender Lullabies’ revolves around eighteen lullabies from around the world; songs that stand tribute to the wonderful and complex relationship between generations and to the strong bond found between children and their parents. While these lyrical songs from more than ten countries are often addressed to those representing the next generation, they are very pleasing across all generations. These classical, often quite complex melodies are composed by famous European composers such as Mozart, Chopin, Brahms, Byrd, Wagner, Reger, Dowland, Tchaikovsky, Massenet, and other anonymous traditional old Arabic tunes.
The unique and creative aspect of this album is that some of the original lyrics of these classical melodies have been newly penned in Lebanese-Arabic texts authored by Ghada Ghanem. These new texts are a blend of Lebanese and Mediterranean thought and humor, establishing a new bond between the listener, possibly still foreign to this genre of classical singing and this art form, thereby contributing towards the elevation of the listener’s appreciation thereof. The newly penned lyrics enrich the original texts by adding a contemporary touch making them more accessible to those foreign to the song’s original languages and their 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th century context.
All Arabic lyrics are written to resonate the beauty of the singer's native tongue, making it closer to all listeners.
