Anton Glamb Biography and Do It! CD Review
By: Yuma Terada
"[Anton Glamb is]...a star and I can't wait to see the red-carpet situation at the Grammy's because it's gonna be crazy."
-Emil Wilbeken, owner of Ecko Unlimited and former Editor-in-Chief of Vibe
Seamlessly blending his classical and jazz training with an unmatched futuristic pop-sensibility, Anton Glamb creates a lyrically driven electronic sound that synthesizes elements of rock, hip-hop, dance and funk. Anton moved to New York to study at Columbia University and make a splash in the city's thriving music scene. After headlining at such New York hotspots like CGBG's and The Knitting Factory, Anton was voted New York City's #2 college performer by a panel of industry professionals at Rock the Vote Battle of the Bands in 2004. He has also been lucky enough to remain connected to his island roots through out all this, having performed at Wave Waikiki's Pussy Cat Lounge, the #1 rated weekly club event in his native Honolulu.
His latest album, Do It!, is an attentively produced gem that brings out the best of Anton's delicate sensitivity for music. The infinitely entertaining "Whole Damn World," "Life is Happening" and "Get Away" showcase Anton's unrivaled command of beats. But his unique style of electronic composition shines most when combined with the surprisingly honest and lucid lyrics in "Clearing Up," "Take It Slow" and "Backing Down." Delivered in a seductive voice, Anton's nuanced poetics illustrate a candid portrait of the man behind the mic.
It is the unlikely combination of frankness and an unaffected celebrity that leaves Anton's fans in eager anticipation for his every move. This spring, his music has inspired Columbia University's Performing Arts League to create an original dance and theatre production based on Do It! The album promises to be only the beginning of an exciting and successful career.
