This CD marks the first for vocalist Glenna Gibson, a veteran club and stage performer who has lived and worked all over the world, including San Diego, Copenhagen, Boston, NYC, and Providence RI. She has performed with the Hal Crook big band and his quintet, saxophonist Carmen Leggio, bassist Jay Anderson, and others.
For this debut session, she has chosen from a wide palette of song material. From the Strayhorn masterpiece “Lush Life” to the anti-war themed “Fragile” by Sting, the selections are varied but have the common threads of great music composition and harmony woven throughout.
Of special note, “Afterglow”, the title piece, is a lovely slow tempo bossa nova by Denver based pianist Judy Boyd who wrote the music, with the elegant lyrics composed by Glenna Gibson.
Glenna has enlisted the arranging and playing skills of husband John Ferrara, an alumnus of the Buddy Rich Band, with whom she has shared a long and productive musical partnership over the years. Also featured is the superb NYC guitarist Dan Calica who lends his polished accompaniment techniques to several tracks.
