This music is composed on the Finale Program and recorded with Digital Performer using a Roland Fantom XR synth module. The music is not performed in real time. An Apple G4 computer plays the score. It is thus the phantom performer, or as the Finale Program has it labeled: no human performer.
This music is an original creation played in a new style or genre. The most accurate term would probably be niche music.
Lately this sort of music performed in concert is called pre-recorded media. In other words there is no musical instrument to play except to press the play button on the computer monitor.
It took several hundred hours to write approximately one hour of music. Far from improvised, this music is distinctly pre-meditated. The interesting thing about using the Fantom XR synthesizer presets is the volume, attack and decay rate of many of the voices is distinctly different. Some are staccato, some contain an elaborate decay rate or after effect. In order to control the harmonic effect it is necessary to adjust the volume of each note as it is written. It is mixed and composed
at the same time.
Liner notes quite often contain a description of the invoked image or emotional effect intended by the composer. Beauty is
in the eye, or ear of the beholder. To me the effect of the music should be left up to each and every listener.
This music almost sounds like various other kinds of music. It reminds me a little of organ music, except organs don't have
these voices. For me, the music develops itself as it's being written.
