ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jennifer Goodenberger is a pianist, composer, and visual artist. Listening to her intimate and contemplative piano solos is an introspective journey into ones’ soul. Her original works range from deeply healing and spiritual compositions to passionate and romantic creations. The music is a mesmerizing fusion of classical, improvisational and contemporary styles. Often her concerts are accompanied by artwork and poetry created to illuminate the music.

Jennifer’s own compositions are transcendent, meditative, moving, and deeply peaceful. Because of these qualities, her music is often used in the healing arts, especially massage and yoga, as ambient music for creativity and relaxation, and in birthing and hospice. It has also been used for film soundtracks. She has 2 recordings of original piano solos, “Return,” and “Mystical,” in addition to “Simple Gifts: American Folk Songs,” and ”Christmas Reflections.”

Capturing the Essence of Christmas
Jennifer takes many of the standard holiday carols and plays them with tenderness and emotion. She makes them more rich and enjoyable through her personal touch. Some familiar carols are barely discernible (and that is exactly what one listens for in these often overplayed seasonal melodies). It's a soothing album - reflective of the short days and long nights around the holidays. "We Three Kings" is quite different as it comes from a darker perspective - requiring a more closer listen than usual. "Silent Night" is also great improvisation, you just can't sing-along on this one.

A great album deserving of five stars, except, the recording quality is somewhat flat. The liner notes indicate the album was recorded in a home environment and perhaps the full richness this entire repertoire earns was not part of the overall project.
