Christmas

by The Gothard Sisters

"Christmas" has a warm, classic sound and beautiful arrangements of Holiday favorites. Like a holiday trip to the Rennaissance Fair, violins, guitars, soft vocals and drums create a wonderful album to listen to during the Christmas season.

My New Favorite Celtic Christmas CD!
As the host of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast and the Celtic Christmas Podcast, I get a LOT of music submitted to me. I am hard-pressed to find great music, especially Celtic Christmas music. I look for something that captures both the spirit of Celtic music as well as the spirit of Christmas. This album magically does both. It's simple yet elegant with beautiful arrangements along with The Gothard Sisters' delicate vocals. The album turned my head with surprise and is now a regular part of my Celtic Christmas listening music.

Gothard Sisters Christmas
This Christmas CD was released three years after their first. Although I find the first Christmas CD charming and recomendable, I would expect the sisters to mature after three years and produce a better album. They did. While I might consider their first to be classified as a good "background album," their latest Christmas CD makes me want to sit up and pay attention. Everything is better, from the production to the performances, the arrangements, and the selections. It's hard to pick out a favorite of mine, but "Little Drummer Girl" I think deserves extra mention. It's the first arrangement I've heard in a long time that didn't sound like some funeral dirge; it's upbeat and full of energy. "Santa Lucia" is cleaverly juxtaposed with the Czech Carol. "The First Noel," "Good King Wenceslas," and of course "Greensleeves" are 5-star performances. My only complaint is that sometimes Solana's lovely voice is drowned out by the instruments. Listening to this CD and watching their videos on Youtube gives anyone the impression that the girls really enjoy the Christmas season!
