Album Notes
Grampas Grass is Garagedelic Soul Rock, a sweet blend of southern rock, folk, blues, funk, Latin, and soul. This rootsy mix of sounds has lead many to describe the music as classic rock with a fresh modern face. However you describe it, the songwriting and musical skill of vocalist Lisa Blue, lead guitarist Brett Davis, bassist Tim Kerrigan and guitarist/vocalist John Malsberger speaks for itself. Their debut album "These Are The Days" features the varied sounds that writer Matt Layton describes, "It's an album that keeps growing and growing on me. At first I had my favorite songs, but now I can't decide what songs I like best. I like them all!"
Based out of Costa Mesa, CA, the Grass is fast becoming one of southern California's most popular bands. "This will be the album that puts on the map." Says John Malsberger, the principle songwriter for the band. The studio album was produced by Jai Vatuk and Grampas Grass at the Haus of Love in Laguna Niguel, CA. It features the drumming talents of Dean Butterworth (Ben Harper, Morrisey), Wally Ingram (Sheryl Crow, David Lindley) and Phil Jones (Tom Petty). Released by LazyDog Records the album has been a labor of love for the band. "It's our first album, of course we're going to put our heart and soul into it." Commented Lisa Blue.

Raw rootsy rock with a style you can't quite pin down...
I got this CD just by browsing the CDBaby site and really liked it. When I told some people about it and they asked what kind of music it was I found myself saying "it's rock, but it's bluesy and folky too, kind of a classic rock feel, but not" I wasn't quite able to pin thier music down. This band is young and still developing at least to my ears, but the raw rocking grooves combined with solid songwriting and sweet harmonies inspired me to write a review. Definitly check this album out if you are tired of the bland pop/punk/mod/emo that clogs the airwaves, these guys are a breath of fresh air.

Great Sound, great lyrics.. A true look into the heart and soul of a genuine individual... A new sound for today that is what this world needs right now.. Something to have us all slow down and think.. Lisa has an amazing voice and aurora and style about her.

Southern California has never sounded so sweet. Launching out of Costa Mesa, Grampas Grass has released its first effort; aptly titled These are the Days. Comprised of eleven tunes that span a sound that rests its head in the good old Southern Rock and moments of colorful jams that provide the perfect background for the goose bump inspiring vocal talents of Lisa Blue, this album settles in with one of the most genuine, inspiring sounds to come through Southern California for some time. Intelligent song writing by John Malsberger leave the listener feeling as if they are on the back roads of Montana with the perfect lady on a stretching summer day. This album has the ability to remind you of childhood memories or happy times spent with friends getting the up most of what life has to offer. Songs like Sweetgrass jump out from the first listen, shining and shifting along in a manner that is contagious to smiles and that Americana swing in your dancing feet. With Brett, John and Lisa all leading lead vocals and Tim lending the strongest of bass lines that keep your body bouncing along with an occasional slap, The Grass breaks out in a full sprint and leaves you feeling full and pleased by the end of the listen. With a fan base that is constantly on the rise and live shows all over So Cal; Grampas Grass has continually brought people together to share in good times and soul satisfying sounds that they have crafted to perfection over the years. Putting these songs down for an actual album has been a long time in coming, and by the end of the last track, the listener finds it was well worth the wait. Perfectly produced, well written, impeccable playing from some of the best musicians in Southern California and absolutely beautiful harmonizing make the album These are Days a must have.
