ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Great Bear Trio is an exciting and energetic family band from Fulton, NY. Since the spring of 2000 these three talented musicians have been performing their unique blend of Celtic, French-Canadian, Scandinavian and Appalachian music at concerts, festivals, schools and dance halls across the Northeast. Brothers Andrew and Noah VanNorstrand are already well-known and respected musicians at the impressive ages of eighteen and sixteen respectively. Andrew often takes the lead on fiddle or nyckelharpa (Swedish keyed-fiddle) as well as playing accompaniment on guitar, bouzouki and banjo. Noah is also a gifted fiddler and mandolin player but he adds a powerful groove to Great Bear on an assortment of world-beat percussion instruments including the African djembe and the Australian didgeridoo. The boys are joined by their mother Kim, playing a solid and inventive style of piano all her own. In 2003 the trio released their self-titled, debut CD (GBR CD001). A year later Kim also appeared on Andrew and Noah’s widely acclaimed duo project Driftage (GBR CD002), which received national recognition when the boys performed live on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. Now Great Bear has returned with a brand new recording â€" Dancing Again (GBR CD003) that features phenomenal original tunes and arrangements; firmly rooted in tradition but wildly fun and adventurous at the same time.

What a powerful delight! This is a superb synthesis of talent and joy, earth and light, quite transcendental music. I've had it for about a week, and I can't seem to listen to anything else! All the dancing friends in Colorado hope this band comes back soooooon!

Few CDs capture the pure joy of life as well as Dancing Again.
Masters of creativity, Andrew, Noah, and Kim VanNorstrand annoint the airwaves with a wild group of tunes, masterfully played on piano, fiddle, and many other less familiar instruments, such as slide-didgeridoo, djembe, and bouzouki. Excitement peaks with marvelous, surprise changes in tempo, key, and dynamics. The first listen blew me away...Subsequent listens drive me into a state of exponential amazement. The Great Bear Trio knows how to celebrate life!
