ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY - LIVE AND INTENSIFIED
"Blending various musical styles including British Invasion, ska, rock, soul and reggae, along with some good old fashioned pop in a mix similar to what The Clash employed. Although brimming with talent at all positions, the band's heart and soul lie in its magnificent horn section which deftly navigates through the various musical styles while providing a distinctive continuity to all the songs. Here's your chance to hear the band do what it does best - play live."

Thank God!
I lived in Rochester and my girlfriend lived in Buffalo between 1985 and 1992. We must have seen GTR around 80 times during that period - they were just amazing then and from what I've heard on this CD they still are. Glad to see that most of the original members are still there - they had amazing chemistry and their shows were incredibly high energy -they left it all on the stage! I would still like to get my hands on a tape of their live shows so I could here great songs like "I want to drown" again. Glad to see that they are back out there and hopefully I can make it back to Buffalo to catch them this summer. And glad to see that this is available. Now I can point people to this who I've been telling them about GTR for years...

Just Tremendous
A beautiful album of timeless songs live. I still have THIS IS INTENSIFIED on vinyl and can still remember seeing GTR open for Fishbone way back when. See them live; they're awesome!!! My wife just saw them for the first time and she is even a bigger fan now.

Great Train Robbery
Have been wanting to pick up a copy of the Great Train Robbery on digital for a long time now. I am happy I could find it online. Like many who have written these reviews, GTR is audio nostaligia for me. This is the sound track for my late highschool and early college years. These songs will never loose their groove and will remain, in my mind anyway, part of the musical identity of the Queen City for years and years to come. I was really happy to see "Slick Little Girl" on the compilation~ it wasn't on the original "Intensified". There are a couple tunes worth picking up separately from this band that were on "When the Spaceships come home" (one of the saddest cd covers I have ever seen btw...) and b-sides of singles releases which are very hard to find. Hope to see a revival from this band, but I'm not holding my breath. Get this now, before this release become hard to find to. -Craig

Excellent songs that stand up to the test of time...
When I was a kid of about 12 back in the late 80's, GTR was the first ban I'd ever seen live. Back then, they inspired me in so many ways, influenced my musical tastes, and eventually influenced my approach to music as a songwriter.

I had long ago worn out my cassette bootleg of their original studio album. For years I'd hunted everywhere for a copy on vinyl to no avail. Finally, this collection of live tracks is available.

Needless to say, the songs are excellent. They were excellent some 15-20 years ago. Anyone who remembers the old David Watts and the Great Train Robbery will love the music. The other reason to buy this disc is the quality. Live shows can be "iffy", however, this one's not. The sound record here is very good for live tracks. There's a little bit too much of a "scoop", making it a tad tinny and bass-heavy, but in general, the mix is clear and well done.

You won't be disappointed with a purchase of this CD.

Let's just hope they decide to take the time and go into a studio and re-record these gems with all the fixin's.

Timeless!
This is one of those cds in today's day and age that needs to be listed to from start to finish. Each song is better than the last. After being away from the Buffalo scene for almost 10 years, it is very refreshing to hear this band still be as sharp, on target and full of energy as they were in the early 90s.

Just like I remember...
They were the best live band in Buffalo in 1985....and they still kick ass. They played my high school dances, local clubs, and I relished every show. Glad to see they are still alive and kicking.

Absolutley the best live band!!
Like so many of these reviews I also grew up in Western NY and saw David Watts and GTR at a free concert (Buff State College). I was floored and had never heard a fusion of ska/rock/punk played so tight. I would have paid an arm and a leg to see this band back in the days. Just recently I stumbled upon the Intensified CD on ITunes and my eyes nearly fell out my head. It's been 20+ years that I have heard these tunes and I now listen to them daily. Pure heaven.

Don't Pass By These Local Heroes
If you can imagine late 1970s Elvis Costello fronting the Specials, this is the CD for you. Classy ska, with an incredible horn section and a great vocalist, performing all originals. Recorded live in front of a hometown crowd, one listen will have you asking, "How did these guys not become huge??!!" Two listens will leave you cringing at the injustice of it. Three listens and you'll be hooked. Buy it and get intensified!!!!
