ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Check out the Miles Griffith and Tony Pancella Trio first CD as a Band called, I Found You.

I hope that you enjoy it!

Notes from the Cats

In early 2000, I received an email from jazz pianist Tony Pancella of Chieti, Italy. He was interested in co-leading a new band that would include his trio--bassist Dario Rosciglione and drummer Pietro Iodice.

Tony had in his possession two CD’s of his long-time friend, James Williams--Truth, Justice and the Blues and We’ve Got What You Need. From 1999-2001 the cats and I toured Europe as the Miles Griffith and Tony Pancella Trio for a year and a half. In the summer of 2001 we decided to record.

Jazz pianist/composer/band leader and friend, Michael Jefry Stevens, and I co-wrote the title track, I Found You. It’s a perfect description of how Tony contacted me online. As time progressed, we soon learned that we have similar musical tastes--both born the sign of Taurus and other related interests. We are brothers of spirit and light.

We came up with three known jazz standards--Close Your Eyes, Summertime and All Of Me. No More is an obscure standard played as a vocal/piano duo. Finally, three originals--Let Me Try by the late jazz piano master Sir Roland Hanna, Tony’s composition Just Wait And See and a fun closing band collaborative composition Crazy Roma Blues.

In conclusion we have eight different perspectives of collaborated sound, spirit and light. Enjoy, Ciao!!

Miles

As a jazz musician I’ve always been very much into the human voice and its use in the jazz idiom. When I have the chance, I love to provide my support as a pianist to singers, like I have so many times in my career. When I play solo or with my band, I love to listen and learn the lyrics of each song. Needless to say it was part of my upcoming musical projects to work in that direction.
I clearly remember that time, when I was listening to a new James Williams’ CD with his marvellous group I.C.U. (Intensive Care Unit). James is one of the true masters of the piano today.

I was in my studio and all of a sudden, I was like: “DAMN!!!!! WHO’S THAT?!?!” I was totally blown away by this crazy MF scatting and swinging his ass off like nobody else I’ve ever heard. Listen to him and you’ll know what I’m talking about. Also, his composing and arranging songs makes him truly a complete artist.

Miles already told you how we got in touch, Yeah, through the power of the Internet.

This is our first CD and actually it was recorded in 2001. Since then we hit the road so many times all over Europe and most recently Israel. The sound of the band developed and grew to a higher plane thanks to two great musicians I would like to thank now--my favourite rhythm section (and spanking buddies), drummer Pietro Iodice and bassist Aldo Vigorito, a member for three years now.

We all share music and life on and off the stage most of the times off the stage, right Miles? Yes Grandma Pancella! We have a great time playing and hanging out together. I could write a book about that. I hope you’ll enjoy I Found You. Thank you Michael Jefry Stevens for your great song! Please continue to support our music. All we can promise is; The best is yet to come.

Tony

The Thank You’s

We would like to thank the Lord God, the cats Tony, Pietro, Dario, Simone, Aldo, our families, friends and fans. We would also like to thank Manfred Kiesant and Carsten Schauer for their wonderful photographs. A BIG thanks for the graphic cover artwork done by Adriana Civitarese.
