"The Baby's Bedtime Book", by Kay Charao, was the inspiration behind many of the pieces on "Bless This Child." I had fun taking the poems from this book and setting them to music. I enjoyed arranging a few traditional melodies, like 'Happy Birthday' and "Twinkle, Twinkle" and writing a couple original tunes as well. After the birth of my third child (in less than four years) I sought refuge in my piano studio, writing while my girls played with Legos behind me. This recording is for them and has been listened to, religiously, at bedtime for the last 5 years. Their new request is for a lullaby CD of Beatles tunes...
This CD has not only been used in the bedroom, to induce sleep, it has been used in other rooms as well. Teachers have used it in the classrooms during writing or project time, or during standardized testing to relieve performance anxiety. I has also been played in the living room as background music for a quiet dinner, or for reading a favorite book by the fire.
I'm also pleased to announce that this little CD has raised over $500 for a non-profit organization that serves women and children 'in transition'. The Gathering Place, in Denver, CO receives $2 for every CD sold, so thank you for your support in advance!
My professional career has been spent primarily playing in hotels, restaurants, clubs and for special events. I've also enjoyed playing for numerous musicals and choral groups. Since having children I have spent more of my time teaching piano to adults and music and movement classes to preschoolers. I continue to compose, perform with my favorite friend and vocalist, Shelly Kozmata, and have begun to play with a 10-piece, 'big band'.
In the near future, in addition to that Beatles Lullaby CD, I hope to record some fun, upbeat family songs I've written, and a collection of Christmas classics. I'll keep you posted!
Thanks for listening!
