This album was a labor of love, and features a superb collection of the world’s most beautiful lullabies and calming music. I perform each piece instrumentally on the solo classical guitar.
In the process of preparing the music for this CD, I was struck by how satisfying these melodies are, rich in harmony, with an elegance and simplicity that is exceptionally moving. It became clear why many of the songs are considered universal, passed on from generation to generation. I have found this music to be soothing and perfect for infants and small children. I included “for grownups too” on the cover because it nourishes people of all ages.
This recording showcases a very special instrument, a 1964 Velázquez handmade classical guitar, which I discovered in an ad on the internet. The owner stored it in his basement in New Hampshire for thirty years! It was in terrible shape, filled with cracks, in need of major repair, but what a sound! This guitar has such a sweet, warm tone, so balanced and pure, with a resonance that truly sings.
I consider Lullaby my best album to date. I hope you enjoy!
