Just A Guitar
I owe a debt of thanks to the wonderful songwriter and good friend Jim Gary of Chicago. While crashing at his apartment as we touring folks tend to do when out scrambling on the road, we had a lovely songwriting discussion in which he mentioned his desire to write a song that rhymed the words cigar and guitar. I went home and stole his idea, but eventually found that the cigar part could be left as a mere implication. That led to the title cut of this CD and by degrees to the concept of a record that would reflect, more or less what one of my live performances might be like.
This CD was recorded live in the studio on old fashioned analog tape with all the imperfections left in. There were no overdubs, punch-ins or digital manipulations used in it\'s production.
So here, with all it\'s warts, is a glimpse of what I might sound like at any little coffee house you may wander into, minus, mercifully, all the bad jokes.
A special thanks goes out to the many folks who have requested this kind of a bare-bones recording from me, those who have let me know that they found meaning in this collection of songs, and all of you who continue to support the efforts of live art in all it\'s configurations, especially when it wanders off the pavement of modern commercialism and finds those odd and quirky bits of countryside where ramshackle buildings meet unrequited heroism.
