ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Head is here.

The Head is the perfect party album for this i-pod shuffle world.

Five years in the making, The Head is the sound of the 21st century so far.

Told by several different voices, The Head is an album about relationships.

The Head is the work of producers Buck & Jonz. Along with a group of other true musicians, they always create "sample-free", collectively delivering Original...Funky...Music.

They've ripped it up opening for the likes of Rick James, The Roots, P-Funk, The Ohio Players & The Gap Band. Jonz has been spotted jamming w/ the likes of Jamiroquai & Sting.

A compilation of R&B, pop, hip-hop & ambient soul.

The Head also features the amazing vocal talents of Genevieve, GwenLeathers & Brother Amin.

Their first full-length release since the critically acclaimed "Play" from Vanguard, "The Head" was recorded in Boston, San Francisco, Chinatown & Extown.

As usual, Buck's tyte beats & tasty production fuse perfectly with the stellar bass & guitar work of Jonz.

Equally well suited as the backdrop to your next party as it is for some alone time with yo' chic or for a ride in yo' whip... "The Head" keeps things movin'.

The Head feels like a house party
The Head feels like a house party, and not just because of the background party chatter that swirls around and between the tracks.  The first track is called “Bumpy Ride”; it’s an appropriate choice to kick off the proceedings, both in party vibe and lyrical foreshadowing—The Head is a bumpy ride through several genres and many talented musicians.  The release is intended to be a sampler of TVP Records’ stable of talent while being a cohesive album in itself—no easy task, but The Head largely pulls it off...... The record manages to achieve a sense of unity despite its multiple songwriters, a testament to the skills of Buck and Jonz.  All in all, The Head is an indicator that these musicians on TVP ought to be watched carefully, as there is an abundance of talent on display here.

There are precious few musicians out there making beats for use in the boudoir!
With Barry White gone and the likes of Al Green and Prince off the
cultural radar, there are precious few musicians out there making beats
for use in the boudoir. Lucky for us, The Head is leading the charge with the release of their first album of funk-infused jams.

Maya

Good stuff.
"Bumpy Ride" gets it started... great JAM. Gates is very funny and very funky. "Luv Jonz" & "Why" ... I'm LOVING Genevieve. "Larceny" is depressing but sexy, if that makes any sense. "Snatch & Grab" sounds like a theme song to a bad-ass 70's movie. "Worlds Apart" defines soul. Peel away the layers and "If Yo" is deep. And "Lonely" and "G" are even deeper.

Suzanne

Funky CD. If you like the Outkast "The Love Below" disc, check this.
Funky CD. If you like the Outkast "The Love Below" disc, check this one out for sure. Definitely similar Prince influences, but it has it's own hip hop edge. It has some tracks that are R&B, but they're not cheesy R&B. I listened to it twice from start to finish.

Sophia

This music is sexy.
This music is very sexy, but not in a forced way. I enjoyed both of the featured female singers very much, and the backing tracks behind them were also very nice. Some of the instrumentals remind me of George Clinton and the Pfunk. Great music for drinking with your friends.

... I was juiced up and listening to your CD...
"... I was juiced up and listening to your CD... Between destinations I was completely lost in it - not to say the alcohol had nothing to do with it, but while sitting in a corner on the V train, legs stretched out in front of me, completely relaxed, eyes only half open, sexy knowing smile on my face, I felt the most comfortable and at peace I have felt in a long time. It was exactly the mood I wanted to be in.
