Joseph Hebert plays a Carbon-Fiber cello on this album. Merrill plays a Steinway grand piano, plus harp/synth, gongs, and sacred bells. Cello & Piano Sanctuary is a collection of improvisations on sacred chants from the 6th Century, traditional Hymns, and African American Spirituals.
This CD is ideal for creating the ambience of sacred space where ever one finds the time and wants to tune in to Spirit. Listeners have used this CD in many venues. It is great for playing at retreats, in ministry to homebound people, for use by chaplins in hospitals, military chaplins, ministers, pastors, seminaries, hospice ministers, and the like. It is played in cathedrals and churches throughout the United States as music which sets the tone for visitors who walk in off the street as well as those attending services such as reconciliation. At Saint Monica Church it was played in the sanctuary last year throughout holy week.
Merrill Collins and Joseph Hebert have been improvising on creative musical ventures since they met in 1982. Their first album, Soyez Gentille, is a favorite of many.
