Instrumental progressive rock/fusion. Multi-Channel SACD/CD Hybrid. This band of creative musicians keeps music where it belongs...as a pure art form.

The Music - "An original form of progressive fusion music...packed from start to finish with brilliant songs, magical performances and great production techniques..."
(MJ Brady - PROGGNOSIS.com)

Read What The Critics Are Saying:

...interesting and engaging compositions...uniquely Helmet Of Gnats...A good blend of art-rock with subtle hints of fusion. I like it! Recommended listening!

(John W. Patterson, Editor/Host of EER-MUSIC.com and WEER Jazz Rock Fusion Radio)

The Gnats here have made a statement for releasing one of the best progressive related CDs of 2004...a CD packed from start to finish with brilliant songs, magical performances and great production standards...

When first getting turned onto this band a few years back, I felt almost privileged to know about them...

...For those not familiar with this variety of music take a chance on this one, you will not be disappointed.

(MJ Brady - PROGGNOSIS.com)

This has got to be the surprise of the year for me. The music of Helmet Of Gnats is some of the hottest fusion I've heard in a while. The band went to great lengths to record the album on all analog equipment and with spectacular results. You could probably play this Disc to someone and tell them it came out in 1975 and they would be hard-pressed to doubt it...if you're a fan of top-notch fusion, I strongly urge you to pickup this CD.

(Floyd Bledsoe, PROGRESSIVEEARS.com)

...A 70's Fusion vibe ala Brand X or Return To Forever...they are ready to make their mark in the progressive fusion scene, and believe me with this one they are headed in the right direction. The sound quality is outstanding and if you have a SACD player all this hot fusion I'm sure will sound that much better.

The plain and simple truth - this is a winner of a CD...Look for big things from Helmet Of Gnats in the future.

(Pete Pardo - SEA OF TRANQUILITY.org)

The band A Helmet of Gnats has been around since the early 1980's. They started out as a progressive fusion cover band in the days when bar gigs were plentiful, playing music by Chick Corea - Return To Forever, Frank Zappa, Bill Bruford, UK, Happy The Man, The Dixie Dregs etc... Thru the 1980's they progressed to an all-original progressive rock/fusion act and experimented playing live with a portable midi sequencer. A Helmet Of Gnats was one of the first and only progressive bands to play entire live shows accompanied by a midi sequencer as one of the "musicians".

In the 1990's A Helmet Of Gnats continued to write and perform in the CT/NY music seen. In 1996 they recorded their first full length CD. (An independent release now out of print)

In their current lineup of Chris Fox on Guitar, Matt Bocchino on Keyboards, Wayne Zito on Bass and Mark Conese on Drums they have dropped the "A" from their name and have now simply become known as "Helmet Of Gnats".

Their 2004 release "Helmet Of Gnats" - Ambient Records CD-004 has received glowing reviews from Progressive Rock/Fusion aficionados in the US, Europe and Japan.

Helmet Of Gnats? Well, who cares? They’re DAMN good!
This is a very special and very good CD. As author: Lee Montagna wrote:” There's something here for everyone”. They are no less than awesome musicians, and the sound/production is good too. Progrock, fusion or jazz, it’s all elements of it here! 5 stars and thumbs up, this is really worth to add to your collection! Truly amazing!

It's kind of rare that you find o group with a so significant voice of thir own - you can allways try to trace some Mclaughlin, Gong, Holdsworth .... but why, their name is Helmet of Gnags, and they are just awesome .

Lee Montagna

Old school prog with a touch of freshness...
Definitely prog rock, but not just more of the same. There's something here for everyone. Hints of Holdsworth, Happy the Man, Liquid Tension Experiment, and Chick Corea's Elektric Band sprinkled throughout, as well as their own sound. Each song has a different feel.
"Yesterday's Brain" is an especially nice Dream-Theateresque jam, while "Crumbs" is a Holdsworthian drift down the soundscape river. The experimental/trippy song "Lesser Beings" showcases their own unique style. I wholeheartedly recomment this cd.
