Winners of the 2013 River City Blues Society Blues Challenge, Richmond, Virginia and scheduled to compete in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN in 2014. Herbie D and the Dangermen are comprised of dedicated musician’s that have created a unique, acoustic, blues band. Based in Hampton Roads, Virginia, Herbie D and the Dangermen continue to provide energetic and soulful music for their fans in and out of the region.
Their original sound touches Blues, R&B, Jazz and Pop genres mixed with traditional Chicago, Texas and New Or- leans influences forming a funky acoustic blues style of their own. Playing both energetic originals and a bluesy twist on some of your favorite covers, their music offers something for everyone to enjoy.
Starting in the Appalachian hills of Virginia, Herbie D. with his distinct, finger style, acoustic guitar and his raspy, bluesy voice drives the band on both lead vocals and guitar. You will notice the wide variety of influences in his songwriting as he walks you through his stories, soothes you with his melodies and gets you dancing with his rhythms. Herbie D. has over 40 years of performing live and recording music and continues to amaze the audience with is talent.
The Dangermen are the soulful backbone rhythm section that form a solid foundation of Rhythm and Blues that will keep you moving and entertained. Art, coming in from New Jersey, brings dramatic horn section fills and exciting solos while playing one of an arsenal of horns (Baritone, Tenor, Alto and Soprano saxophone and flute). Chris, originally from Kentucky, plays upright bass to provide a clean bottom-end thump and grooving balance to Herbie D.’s rhythmic phrases. Sal, raised in North Carolina, provides drums and percussion keeping the energy moving forward and the timing tight.
