Setting out to record an album is much like baking a cake.....you have high hopes of course, but you won’t know until the end how it will taste. This is doubly so when all of the music is fresh and new, never before heard by human ears. For the listener, too, it takes an act of faith to give a new song or a new band a chance. So it is that we thank you for taking that chance, and giving a listen to this, our second recording project. We hope you find something here that speaks to you. Something that suits your palate. We truly thank our friends and fans in New Mexico and elsewhere for their kind words and support over the years. And we thank the folks at the various music festivals and venues that have taken a chance on us, even when we don’t fit the expected mold. Our thanks go also to Bill Boaz for making us sound so much better. And to Doug Porter for graciously agreeing to make a guest appearance on “Alamance”...one listen, and you will understand why. And most of all, we thank our families for their faith, love, tolerance, and encouragement in helping us to create something new. And for helping us to remember each day all the reasons we have to be thankful.
"Higher Ground is a true ensemble, an organic coming together of diverse musical talents whose combined creativity is greater than each has individually. Their lives parallel their music as they move ahead while remembering where they came from and (to paraphrase a line from a song that gives this fine album its title) the people, places, and memories they hold dear." –David Morrell
(David Morrell’s best-selling thrillers include The Brotherhood of the Rose, The Fifth Profession, The Protector, and First Blood, the novel in which Rambo was created. A former musician, he also contributes essays to The Absolute Sound, most recently on Frank Sinatra and Nelson Riddle.)
