ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hilliard 'Hill' Greene is an extraordinary musician and composer. For the past fifteen years, he has served as bassist and musical director for the great Jimmy Scott and The Jazz Expressions. Notably, Hill has also played and recorded with Dave Douglas, Charles Gayle, Oliver Lake, Jack Walrath, and Kenny Barron. A rare bassist who not only exemplifies the art of swing through his masterful walking bass lines, Hill Greene also brings something entirely new and fresh to the instrument.

"OK, an unaccompanied solo in a tune is one thing. A whole concert - well, that's something else entirely. The thing is, Greene can keep the listener interested - very interested - for upwards of an hour, all by himself. His new album, ''Alone,'' is a riveting hour-plus of material, mostly originals, that stand up well as melodic compositions played with passionate dedication. There is a wide range of styles and forms, and there is no risk of boredom among the eight tunes." Steve Greenlee-Boston Globe
