This film and soundtrack were a real transition for the band., and you can hear it in the music.
Here's what Hippie Cream's 2012 Press Kit says:
Founded in 2001 as a lo-fi songwriting and recording experiment, Hippie Cream has evolved steadily into what has been described as “the finest band you’ve never heard of [...] a Southern California collective making multi-layered folk-psychedelia available to the masses” (David Fleming – Arts and Entertainment Producer, KVCR-FM).
They have gone through several phases, from a Moldy Peaches / Daniel Johnston-esque lo-fi act with a heavily trafficked Myspace page (’01 – ’05), to a Southern California club and bar staple live act (’06 – ’08), to a live comedy house band (‘09), finally maturing into their present form – a seasoned live act featuring songs from their 300+ composition catalog. Hippie Cream has also teamed up with Marty Fishman Productions to release a series of films and videos, including the “soon to be
classic” (Cameracinemas.com) Marty’s Magnificent Day-Glo Dream-a-Thon (2011) and the award winning (SJSU film festival) “Antique Imagination” (2012).
