Album Notes
I wrote this album when I was living in New York, beginning in the fall of 1997 through the spring of 1998. Whereas on my first album, a self-titled debut with a pair of boots on the cover, where I had gone for very organic sounding production; now I was interested in producing these new songs in a studio environment that really took advantage of all possibilities. That is, I wanted my songs in the hands of a producer who could use modern production in a super soulful way, someone who could get all those boxes and gadgets and knobs and buttons to SING...

Enter Howie B. A friend of mine gave me his gorgeous album, Music For Babies, and I was enchanted. These sculpted sounds would be a dream to sing over. So in the fall of 1998, I went to London where we met at a very loud restaurant, and in spite of the fact that I spilled my bloody mary all over the white tablecloth, Howie agreed to work with me. I spent about 5 months over there, reveling in this new music.

When I came home to New York, my then record label said, "Uh... that's nice but we want 'singles' ". During that time, the spring of 1999, I wrote "Something Else" and went in and recorded "Hurricane". I added those to the pile of Tender Hooks and also added "Divided" which I had recorded during the initial writing period.

So that's the story of how the album was made. I hope you enjoy it. If you get one, try playing it real loud. You'll be able to hear all the spaces in the music, the nooks and crannies and little secrets going on....

dreamy soundscapes luscious vocals love it!
Two masterpieces this year. Very different from I Confess. This is very mellow, very dreamy and takes you away to another world. Wonderful at night but equally so on a sunny day.How sexy is A Rose By Any Other Name? Kate Bush must wish she could make an album like this.

Elaine Rach

These are all super-soulful songs. Holly's sound is sculpted here.

Superb - She just gets better
Holly is not well known in the UK - I had to buy this on the net - but I am spreading the word. I have listened all three albums in order and they just get better. Is Anybody Home, Switched, Something Else(my fav) and Judas - this Cd is really quite brilliant. Can't wait for the next one.

Very cool album
As I already own Holly's other two albums there was no question about getting this one, and to be honest it has wound up my favourite Holly Palmer album. She strikes the balance of producing some very accessible instant tunes with songs that show her more diverse, creative vaguely off the wall ideas. I'd definitely recommend this album. My favourite tracks on there would be Smallroom, Hurricane and Is Anybody Home?. Switched could have been a hit single if given the right record company treatment.

Awesome CD
This is the second great cd from this artist this year... hopefully there will be many more to come. The wait for both I Confess and Tenderhooks was well worth it!!!!!!

For Your Pleasure
Wow, As highly as I rate Holly's other two records, especially I Confess, this one might be my favorite.
I believe this was recorded just after Holly's amazing stint with David Bowie and it really shows. The albums finest moments have an ambient cool that would have fit nicely on any of Bowie's work with Eno (or Eno with Roxy Music for that matter).
Holly seems like a godsend in this age of pre-packaged, no talent pop 'princesses'. She is the real deal and the album's best songs just bleed with a brilliance that is rarely heard anymore.
This is a wonderful album, it baffles the mind that she had trouble getting it out. Words fail me....just buy it.

how can you not love holly palmer?
Holly's I Confess album is a classic. This one inparticular is a little more on the electronic side. The first track sold me. .Now I can't wait to get her first album. Apparently I'm working backwards. Holly, if you read this. .could you please book a freakin show here in LA. :)

Ah, now I understand...
How odd that Holly Palmer had to release her albums out of order. The changes between the debut album and I Confess were huge. Tender Hooks represents the step between the two. You can hear her becoming less Paula Cole and more Gwen Stefani. You know you're spoiling us, though. We'll be expecting another album in about a fortnight!
