ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Acoustic Dialogs
Is rarely that musical languages that seem geographically and culturally apart seldom assemble in such a whole and natural way. When this is accomplished, a unique listening experiencie emerges. Though similar approaches may be found, fortunately for all, this particular one, this revelation of sound, has been captured in an unrepeatable recording.
In Lienzos de Viento (Wind Canvasses) three wind instrumento players of great virtuosity join together in an unrestrained musical communion: Luis Hernández, a zoque pitero, Ubaldino Villatoro, a mam chirimitero and flutist Horacio Franco.
In this recording, the sones and zapateados from the zoque and mam cultures of Chiapas intertwine with medieval and barroque music, with gleams of African and Japanese music, with the sound of flutes and chirimías, the marimba, the violín and drums, the combination brings forth an atmosphere of a rich vitality together with suggestive and innovative musical passages. This mixture, this fusion, or whatever we chose to call it, builds into a canvas full of color, texture and unsuspected acoustic forms.
Musical heritage is endlessly created and recreated. This recording contributes to its enrichment and renewall. It establishes a dialiog and, the refore, a fruitful encounter between cultures which is the basis for mutual understanding.
This PUERTARBOR record is the first of a series of phonographic materials for the promotion of various musical and artistic contemporary forms.
