ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This CD may be described as Red Dirt Rhythm and Blues and “other stuff”. It is defiantly Home Grown - Hand Crafted - Always Fresh - Story Telling that uses original Rock, Jazz, Folk, and Americana vehicles.
I have never liked the confinement of genres. It is difficult to describe my music based on their limits. I am a ravenous music listener. And, I purchase songs that I think will help me with my song writing or that I feel my band should learn. I like most types of music. However, I am most interested in anything new. Blues, Alternative, Rock, and Singer / Songwriter are the categories I seem to be the most drawn to. I’ve been writing all styles of music for years. Many of these songs began with simply visualizing people or landscapes. Romance and History are resources I enjoy exploring.
The hardest thing about song writing is finding the time to just sit down and do it. There is always something important to do like sorting socks or watching bad TV. I have written hundreds of songs and these are some of the best.
As he built his home studio into one of the finest in Oklahoma, Tripp and I recorded a couple of CDs worth of my tunes. Many were recorded before the ink was dry. As his studio evolved it became apparent that we were making a CD.
I hope you enjoy this project. Stay tuned for more.

Brand New Favorites
I have been fortunate enough to follow Howard Brady's growth from a shy guitar strummer into the leader and writer behind the wonderful new album "Ghosts of the Rio Rojo". I had heard many of the the songs before at live shows and have noticed over the past year or so the steady progression of Howard's voice development. Some of the songs (Ramona Jean, Full Bore Wide-Open, and Moccasin Creek) are real rockers with wonderful guitar work by either Michael Moore or Trip Shawyer. I particularly liked the opening of Moccasin Creek. It reminded me of the very first ZZ Top album cut "Brown Sugar". I was surprised by how much I liked the slower ballads, particularly "Learning to Fly". Howard's word play is very developed and hits the right tone for all fanciers of Red Dirt, Austin Singer-songwriter type stuff, with a hint of blues and CW. I have found the more I play this record, the bettter I like it. Howard and his band (whoever might appear at the gigs) is always enjoyable and he and the Rexall Rangers have captured the essence of live venue digitally on this CD.
