ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This CD features the Bohemian composer F.Benda. His violin concerto is a vigorous and uplifting. His concerto is the first recording since the discovery of the hand written manuscript. Before now, it has never been published.

Another Bohemian composer J.K.Vaňhal who played cello in a string quartet with Haydn, Dittersdorf and Mozart wrote a wonderful, cheerful, and uplifting double bass concerto.

G.Bottesini was called in his lifetime “ The Paganini of the double bass." This piece certainly shows the Grand Duo for violin and double bass are equal virtuosities for both instruments.

T.A.Findeisen, former solo double-bassist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, wrote the Romantic Suite a duo for violin and double bass, taxing both instruments with virtuosity, lyricism and wit.

The Prague Chamber Orchestra Without A Conductor originated in 1951 from members of the Prague Radio Symphony who decided to devote themselves to a repertoire requiring not a large orchestral ensemble but precise coordination, purity of sound and expressive spontaneity. The Orchestra has gained international renown during it’s years of activity. It holds such awards as : Charles Cross Grand Prix Academie (France) and Supraphon Golden Disc 1987 (Czech Republic – former Czechoslovakia).

Music Director and Sound Engineer is Václav Zamazal who holds prestigious awards such as: USA Recording of the Year (1977 USA), Grammy Price (1994 Czech Republic), Charles Cross Grand Prix Academie (France), Wiener Flötenuhr Price (Austria), Edison Price (Holland).
