ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Steve Hunter has been contributing his expertise, style and tone to other people’s albums for over 40 years. Starting with Mitch Ryder in 1971 and moving on to record and or tour with Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Julian Lennon, Bette Midler and Tracy Chapman to name a few.

He has had a longstanding working relationship and friendship with legendary record producer Bob Ezrin since those early albums, which continues today. From unforgettable tracks such as ‘Solsbury Hill (Peter Gabriel), ‘Train Kept Rolling’ (Aerosmith) and ‘Intro to Sweet Jane’ (Lou Reed).
Dedicating his life to music despite dealing with the degenerative eye disease Pigmentary Glaucoma.

Steve has recorded four albums under his own name: ‘Swept Away’ ‘The Deacon’ ‘Short Stories’ and Hymns For Guitar’. The latter two can be currently found on most major online stores including iTunes and cdbaby.

Most recently Steve has featured heavily on the new Alice Cooper album ‘Welcome 2 My Nightmare’ a successor to the hugely successful ‘Welcome To My Nightmare’ released in 1975 and also completed a world tour with Alice during 2011.

He is now back at home working on his own new album, due for release later this year and has released a cover of Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On' as a download single, available here on CDbaby and other digital sites.

Steve is now legally blind but the tone and musicality at the end of his fingers is stronger than ever.

‘Short Stories’ is a collection of instrumentals full of mood and color.
“I have always admired authors such as O. Henry and Edgar Allan Poe for their ability to tell an amazing tale in a very few words. I am also a big fan of the old Twilight Zone series for the same reason. With “Short Stories” I’ve tried to do something similar only with music. Most of the songs on the CD are 3 minutes or less in length but I wanted each one to tell its own little story. I also think of each piece as a “sound picture”, projecting an aural image as well as telling a story. I hope you enjoy my collection of “Short Stories”.

Good Solid Rock
I was hopeful after reading Steve Hunter's credentials and I wasn't disappointed when the album arrived. Good, solid rock reminiscent of Robin Trower but with a wider range.

Steve Hunter Short Stories
These short stories deliver a delicious range of flavors. Soulful, raucus, funky, spacy, exotic, its all here! Each track has layers and textures like a beautifully woven fabric so I keep hearing subtle new elements with each listening. Of course, my favorite aspect of the music is Steve Hunter's incomparable phrasing. Nuanced at times, sometimes rambunctious but always tasteful and lyrical. One thing every song has in common--each one leaves you wanting more.....great album!

Great Guitar CD. Steve has always played expressively. This CD really captures his range of emotion and highlights his skills. Those of us who have appreciated his work since the Detroit album and his early work with Lou Reed knew he had this album in him.

Short Stories by Steve Hunter
We are in the presence of a Master. This is arguably the best guitar CD there is, period. The range of guitar voices is simply stupendous. Guitars as dirty, as nasty, as vile as you have ever heard them; as clean and pure and delicate as can be imagined. The tempos range from the solemn (Nylon Cafe, Goodbye Abigail, Blue) to Funk (Blue Sun, Funk Booty) to Blues (Blue Sun) to Rock (Skin, Flying Hippo, Spider Web - I am fairly sure a whole bunch of tubes gave up the ghost during the recording of this track). And then there\'s that cover of Flying. If someone knows of a better, more joyous amalgamation of strings, please share that knowledge with the rest of humanity.

This is the CD you will be showing off your system with. In this day and age of over-driven, over-compressed, over-loud CDs, here we have a CD that has real dynamic range. The sound comes from an inky dark pool of absolute silence and is spotlessly clean and pure. A great deal of care and effort went into getting each and every aspect of this recording right, and it shows. Or rather, it sounds. This is a disc that will never, ever hurt your ears to listen to.

This recording is a demonstration of mastery of the instruments, mastery of the studio, and obviously a mastery of life. From conception through performance through construction of the final sound, this is as \"on target\" a display of musicianship and studio craft as you will ever hear.

Do you like music? If you do, this belongs in your collection.

5 stars because I can’t give it 10.

A Master speaks
Steve's like those Zen Masters : he says everything so eloquently. I bought this along with Hymns for Guitar and love both.
