ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Recorded live at Chris Bennett's sold out performance at the A-Trane Jazz Club in Berlin, Germany. This CD features Berlin's top sidemen as well as Tahitian sax marvel Armando Castagnoli. It includes Chris' Brazilian jazz originals plus standards like "Skylark," "One For My Baby," and much more!

"Live Jazz" in Berlin!

Chris Bennett is a Grammy nominated contemporary jazz singer, pianist and composer. Her sound has been compared to Diana Krall and Shirley Horn, but with a more dynamic performance style. She also writes much of her own material as well as covering some jazz standards. She began her career in Germany working with Giorgio Moroder as the lead singer of "Munich Machine" and has evolved into one of the top jazz singers working today. Chris plays to sold-out houses in Europe and recorded this "Live" album on one of her appearances at Berlin's top jazz club, "The A-Trane"! It captures her stunning performance surrounded by some of the best musicians in Berlin as well as her favorite saxman, Armando Castagnoli, from Tahiti. "LIVE IN BERLIN" showcases some of Bennett's originals like, "Shimmy Softly" and "One Man Show" as well as her beautiful version of the Hoagy Carmichael/Johnny Mercer standard "Skylark". A gifted pianist as well as singer and songwriter, Bennett's piano chops are featured on original versions of "Nice Work If You Can Get It", "You Took Advantage Of Me", and the late night barroom gem, "One For My Baby". The famous German director, Justin Stauber, shot a video of "LIVE IN BERLIN" and a clip of it can be viewed at chrisbennett.com. This CD will lift your spirits and give you the feeling of that hot August night in a smoky jazz club in Berlin!!!

The Best Kept Secret
I had never heard of Chris Bennett when a German friend took me to see her at the A-Trane in Berlin circa 2000. I went there with no expectations and left there amazed at the energy level, the talent of every band member, but most of all at the vocals, stage prescence, song interpretentation and band leadership of Chris. I immediately bought this CD which had been recorded the year before, and it is representative of what I saw that night ( although it does not include the most amazing version of Spain I have heard since Jarreau).
