Broken Earth is my first complete pop vocal album and it was a great joy making it. It was also quite a challenge to get as good production values as I could with the resources that were available to me.
Which, incidentally, basically consisted of only the 3rd generation iPad, the GarageBand app and my iPhone 5's earphones as a microphone. I guess I am a believer in achieving more with less.
Despite the limitations, and perhaps because of this, I was extremely inspired to come up with many new songs that stretched across a number of genres, paying tribute to some of my favorite artists in the process.
The musical styles range from pop, rock, funk and R&B. All of the songs were written within the space of 2 weeks, with the exception of Sweeter One, which was written 20 years ago, and I am glad I have finally recorded this and is dedicated to my dearest wife, Pauline.
I also realized that as I get on in years, I have much more to say than say, 20 years ago. The topics that are touched upon on this album include social, political, environmental, my dialect and of course, the eternal theme of love.
I decided on only eight songs this album simply because I felt I had managed to say what I wanted to express within these songs, and despite the running time, I do feel that they are my strongest collection of songs to date and hope you will get to enjoy them.
Technology has certainly advanced greatly and with the tools available, it is mind blogging that this entire album could have been written, recorded and mastered with just one person and a touch tablet.
I hope that you will enjoy this album as much as I have in making it. And lastly, a shout out to all my "babies", for without which, the inspiration for Broken Earth would not have materialized.
