ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In Process... has been singing in the African American oral tradition for 25 years. The group is Tia Ade, Paula Pree, Nketai Agyeman and Pam Rogers. The repertoire includes spirituals, gospel, blues, freedom songs and original songs about current issue such as the environment, love and anti-violence.

Tia Adé, born in Washington, D.C., has been involved in the performing arts since a very young age, including ballet, modern dance, and drama. She grew up listening to many types of music, but favored jazz and rhythm and blues. Her mentors were Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin. In addition to singing with In Process..., Tia has performed with a variety of bands and shows, and has shared the stage with recording artist such as Michael Narada Walden, Nona Hendricks, Queen Latifah, Teddy Riley, Cee Cee Peniston, Roy Ayers, and Pieces of a dream. For six years, Tia performed consistently at the famous Channel Inn Hotel on the Washington waterfront, and is presently a featured singer with the Bobby Felder Band. Her many followers regard her as a profound performer and singer to be reckoned with.

A native Washingtonian, Paula Pree discovered her love of harmony at an early age; the family of five often sang together. Singing Latin masses and Gregorian chants in the elementary school children’s choir opened her ears to the beauty and power of harmony in all genres. She sponsored and directed the church youth choir and co-authored and directed dramatic productions for the Sunday School Department. As an actress, Paula appeared in African American Collective Theatre productions of The Trials of Brother Jero and One Monkey Don't Stop No Show. She has been with In Process… since its origin in 1980 and is also the contact person for the group. She and sister, Pam Rogers, co-direct a church music program. Paula finds that keeping alive the age-old harmonies and rhythms of the ancestors strengthens, renews, and reinforces the connections to her heritage.

Nketia Agyeman was born and raised in the Washington metropolitan area. Music has always been a part of her life. Her parents always had music playing in the home, first thing in the morning and going to sleep with it at night, as they listened and danced the nights away. She, her four brothers and one sister all had an ear for music, and all loved to sing. Through all grade levels of school, she sang in some type of group or choir. She displays a range of highs and lows that reveal the heart and soul of her love for music. Nketia has been blending voices with In Process... for 18 years, and finds the circle, be it rehearsals or concerts, renders itself a comfort zone for the sisterhood that we all share. She has appeared with Tia Adé, Nona Hendrix and Roy Ayers, to name a few. Music runs through her veins.

Pam Rogers inherited her love of singing is from her parents at an early age; the family sang together. She learned to love the harmonies singing Latin Masses and Gregorian chants in the elementary school choir. Her Singing continued in high school and in various church choirs until 1984, when she came to In Process… Pam is a talented songwriter and arranger and hopes her songs of testimonies of her own life experiences encourage others. In 2001 she joined with other four songwriters in the Between Friends (also avaiable on CDBABY) project to record and perform some of their original compositions. Pam loves bringing together a theme and great singers. With her sister, Paula Pree, she co-directs a church music program. She has produced and coordinated many Civil Rights programs for the Smithsonian Institution American History Museum, Program in African American Culture.
