Internal Sun is the audiovisual project of Antwerp based Andrew ‘Chi’ Claes & VJ Natché,
covering their joint output in live performances, tracks, remixes, artwork, … and shortly
a limited EP to appear March 11th 2013 (vinyl & digital). Having teamed up when
investigating Cymatics – the study of visible sound and vibration – distinguishes the
Internal Sun esthetic: organic, fickle and visceral.
Live Internal Sun delivers an impressive and contemplative performance including
electronic instruments, modular software and visuals. Bringing their own highly
personal and largely improvised take on the Warp back catalogue and its pioneering
sound of hi-tech jazz, the cinematic live acts of Nosaj Thing & Amon Tobin, and the
Flying Lotus brand of instrumental hiphop.
On stage woodwind player Andrew ‘Chi’ (BRZZVLL, Stuff., ….) makes use of an EWI
(electronic wind instrument), which controls synth modules, alongside handsonic
percussion controller & several custom software patches. Broodingly dark yet
melodious, Andrew layers themes on top of looped bass and percussion, where VJ
Natché complements his improvisations visually, displaying her tendency towards live
video compositing, projection & optical illusions.
About the Internal Sun EP

titled first EP consists of a collection of heavy-layered tracks with a distinct spectral
approach. Providing the audience with a dense, textured and rewarding record, which
will appeal both to old school IDM fans and a younger audience raised on instrumental
While mostly beat-driven and sometimes dub-flavored, sonic transitions and swirling
pads continually accompany the stunning melodic and harmonic structures. With
this dedicated approach of evolving melodies and the crafting of spectral transitions
between sometimes contrasting parts, the listener is warmly invited to the multiverse of
the Internal Sun.
Within this unified approach, which provides each track with an organic progress, and
a joint, distinctive sound, the EP flows freely between styles, times & influences. From
deep opening track Mind Coat to light dub Spacedropper, dreamy Altsequoia (which is
reminiscent of some Autechre) through to nostalgic rocker Montauk Chi .
The EWI wind controller, digital percussion and other electronic performance
instruments are all recorded live. On stage these tracks will be dissected, to be recycled
without limitations to obtain real-time live mutations of the EP’s sonic and visual
