Known for her Columbia Records album, “Love Is A Necessary Evil”, Ms. Curry has been affectionately named “100lbs Of Sounds”, by musicians. She has either performed or recorded with most of the Jazz Giants. That list includes such ‘greats’ as Benny Carter, Quincy Jones, Lionel Hampton, Art Blakey, Chuck Wayne, Sir Roland Hannah, Wes Montgomery, Shelly Mann, Clark Terry, Wild Bill Davis, Don Elliott, Benny Powell, Louis Jordan, Ron Carter, Charlie Mingus, Joe Jones, and the list goes on. While recording the “Love Is A Necessary Evil” album, Ms. Curry looked out from her booth, saw famous drummer Joe Jones and asked Don Elliott, “Is that ‘the’ Joe Jones? I’d love to have his autograph.” Elliott told Jones, who remarked; “Never mind ‘my’ autograph, I’d love to have hers!”
The petite singer-songwriter, having recorded on several major labels, and often praised for her beautiful, smooth, silky voice, speaks from the heart about her experiences with (“my best friends”)…Musicians. Curry says: “They’re extremely gifted people. I really admire the way they challenge, and encourage; bringing out the best in each other. When they sit-in and jam together, they seem not only to learn, but they also strengthen that bond between themselves, and even (you), if you’re jamming with them. It’s simply awesome! When I’m ‘gigging’, they always help to embellish the story I’m telling, (as a singer); the way I’m really feeling it. To me…… they’re just “Fantastic Human Beings!”
Curry’s latest CD… “SEASONEDED WITH CURRY” is an introduction to several original compositions, Irma ‘penned’ and arranged with her daughter Kim. The CD is dedicated to the memory of Curry’s mentor, the late Maestro Benny Carter.
