ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
1. Schunah (“Hood”) - Written by Gilad in honor of our hang of friends in Westchester. Schuna is Hebrew for (Neighbor) Hood.

2. Reah Tapuach (“Smell of an apple”) – An Israeli folk song with a strong aroma of the 50’s in Israel.

3. Eishes Chayil (“Woman of Valor”) - This melody was written originally by Joseph Rumshinsky for the Yiddish Theatre in New York. Rearranged very differently by Oren for Isra-Alien

4. Valentine – Written by Gilad for his wife (then future Fiancée) awwww….

5. Tavas Hazahav (“The Golden Peacock”) - Written by Shem-Tov Levi, an Israeli composer that we love. This was originally played by many instruments; we tried to condense all the parts to our 2 guitar arrangement.

6. Pnei Hayam (“The Face of the Sea”) - Written by Oren over the course of a few days watching the Ocean. This piece is dedicated to Astor Piazolla, one of Oren’s favorite composers; Bobby Hansman one of his favorite teachers, and Katie Wasserman his favorite wife.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The last three tracks are our dance set, each inspired by a different traditional Jewish dance.

7. Horah-Alien – The ultimate Israeli folk dance, the Horah was the inspiration for this composition.

8. Brogez / Sholem – Inspired by a traditional eastern European Jewish dance, The Brogez dance, a wedding dance performed by both mother’s in Law for the Bride and Groom. Brogez means hating someone so much you don’t want to speak to them…Sholem means making peace.

9. Isra-Freilach – Klezmer on guitar? Is that possible? Well, we tried and this is what came out…
(By the way “Freilach” means happy in Yiddish)
