Album Notes
Jack Grelle is a singer-songwriter who honed his craft on the road. He has traveled coast to coast by way of thumb and freight train, playing on streets and subways and making friends along every stop. "Jack Grelle & the Johnson Family" is a portrait of Jack at home with his friends - twelve original songs that cross the spectrum of folk and country. "The Johnson Family" is a term from 1930s hobo culture that refers to a good bum, one that could be trusted and depended on. That term is appropriately giving to Jack's backing band, which include everything from a professional, world-class multi-instrumentalist to a rookie ace pedal steel player. Along the journey you will hear piano, banjo, fiddle, harmonica, upright bass, some twangy electric guitar and even a cajun triangle joined together in a barroom symphony behind Jack's honest and vibrant take of folk Americana.
