JAH LOCK ZEBULUN “THE WORD SOUND IS THE POWER”
Hailing from Belize the Heart of the Caribbean the ancient city in Central America growing up in the city things were not easy there were good and not so good days, But as this artist would say, “everyday that JAH gives us is a Great Day”.That statement set a good example of persistence over resistance when it comes to his life, his music and the ancient traditions of roots and culture. Not a follower, but coming with a Earth birth right to be and set a place for himself and family in this creation and beyond.
Born Sherlock Belisle and raised as a Seven Day Adventist his mother instilled strong values coming from the Bible with words coming from the the Almighty Creator to LOVE one another and put the Almighty first in everything one does, self respect, work, and responsibility for living in a sometimes hostile world were etched firmly in his mind as with his siblings led to the next level, the RASTAFARI calling which is a in born concept.
JAH LOCK ZEBULUN was an excellent student in all forms from primary to O levels then entered college and mastered the language of English, Math, and Literature- In his early days he loved the arts and was often selected to play lead roles in school plays and reciting pantomimes with love of music always in his heart, he combined that with gifts of words given to him from an early stage has transcended to the love of poetry with music, plays important role in his life.
Inspired by Mutabaruka and Linton Qwesi Johnson international Dub Poets and Robert Nesta Marley, JAH LOCK ZEBULUN is on a mission of producing positive messages for the mind body and spirit through the power of word sound and power via Reggae music.
His first single was released in Belize, in the early nineties titled Exile, which touched on Nelson Mandela’s exile in South Africa and received great radio exposure and reviews. This led to him being invited to perform at various stage concerts at the Civic Center in Belize where major local and international concert events take place.
Though Belize is one of many beautiful places in the Caribbean, JAH LOCK ZEBULUN journeyed to the west coast of the USA and landed in LA, California and met up with other musicians from his native land and was introduced to international recording artists on the verge.
The first album titled “Power & The Glory” was composed and produced by Way Neal and Jah Lock Zebulun, is a combination original chants and poetry in pure raw energy wrapped around Jazz, Reggae, and R & B, received a positive response.
Between his recordings and building natural wood frames, JAH LOCK Zebulun has performed among notables list of Reggae artist such as Ras Shiloh, Yami Bolo, Sly & Robbie, Half Pint, Tony Rebel, Jah Dan, Major Mackerel, Jr. Reid, Sizzla , Sista Joyce and Midnite in the United States.
Forward 2006/07, Jah Lock sophomore CD release titled “Strong Ras Family” on Africa I am Label and Lustre King Productions further his commitment to the vision of JAH’s Love, Life, Respect, Family, and Revolution for the highest good in humanity. The tracks are filled and layered with subliminal free flowing edges of an eclectic music mix, seasoned in Reggae, Hip hop and World/Latin music that soothes your spirit.
