Something Old, Something New

by Jan Daley

-Miss Daley brings a bluesy white-soul and depth to her jazz standards that only an artist of this caliber can pull off. Her own music takes us on a surprising personal detour that ignites the second half of the CD.

Album Notes
“Jan Daley is a truly talented musician, singer, and lyricist. Her marvelous voice is selectively controlled and her intonation is, to the fussy one like me, immaculate. She also projects warm and clear lyrical interpretations, delivering real meanings of every song she sings. The guys in the band play better when Jan is on. They know she knows! I'm delighted to be included in the album with two of my better songs, ( I told you she has good taste) and maybe, just maybe, I helped her find herself as a fine songwriter. Some of her best are on this CD.- Jack Segal

“She is above all a tasteful artist which is hard to come by these days. Miss Daley whose voice matches her looks, is in every sense of the word a knockout. “-Billboard

“Jan Daley is a rare combination. She brings to her songs a freshness and conviction that are all but transforming.”
She is not a carbon copy of anyone. There is a certain coolness to her delivery which she offsets with a glint of fire just beneath the surface.”- Hollywood Reporter

“Miss Daley's vocal technique is marvelous, but her range is her most important attribute.”-Los Angeles Times

Jan Daley is one of the amazing and fine artists we have out there today. She has formed an amazing album that astonishes and inspires every listener. Her voice is soulful and deep and the lyrics are truly beautiful. There's so much to say and so many ways to say it and I'll leave it at that. This album is truly amazing. I highly encourage everyone to buy it. You most certainly won't regret it. I know I didn't.

This CD is music as we remember it--melodic and engaging. Jan Daley's voice has a clarity and purity that is unusual in music today. Her beautiful arrangement of "Skylark" showcases the richness and range of her voice. The music she writes reveals a woman who is comfortable enough in the complexity of her personality and experience to reveal her many moods. She is in turn wistful, melancholy, reflective and playful. Her artistry draws you into each song and invites you to experience your own special moments once again. Sometimes, as in "Dreamer," her voice is like a caress that holds you softly in the memories the song evokes. The lively tempo of "Come on Daddy" makes you want to tap your toes and dance along. The haunting "I Love You Tonight" is like a gentle loving lullaby. The songs on the CD will wear well over time because they are evocative. Through her mastery of voice, mood and timing Jan gives us music that resonates with our own experiences and unites us in our common humanity--and that is what art is about.
Making this CD was a wonderful experience. I was privileged to work with some of the top musicians in Los Angeles, and having Jack Segal co-produce and include some of his own famous songs like: “When Sunny Gets Blue,” and “More Love,” was the icing on the cake. He was my guiding presence. I want to thank Craig Garfinkle (who played bass) for his wonderful arrangements, style and expertise at the consul. Mark Greene for his great ear and finesse in engineering “Something Old, Something New,” “The One I’ve Been Waiting for” and “I Love You Tonight.” Ed Tree for his sweet guitars, smile and humor. Jeff Lass who came into the project late, but took me to a heavenly place with his beautiful piano renditions and arrangements. He is also responsible for getting me through the last three cuts when I couldn’t sing a note, because of a virus. His easy and positive attitude gave me that “extra something” to make this project possible.” But most of all, I thank God for the gift of singing and writing to get me through life day by day, and my family, friends, and fans for all their continued support.
I look forward to seeing my new CDbaby fans at my concerts. Jan Daley's voice is at once smooth, desireable, intoxicating.
If a voice could be how mink feels, that would be Jan Daley’s. Smooth, desireable, intoxicating. Offering her own interpretation to such classics as When Sunny Gets Blue, she sings the song while still preserving the composer’s original intent. The Way of A Woman, co-written by Jan, is so heartfelt it strikes a chord that she’s been there, and felt the pain. The beautiful She Was A Dreamer, also co-written by Ms. Daley, is an enchanting look at adolescence and the perspective of a bright future kindly mentored. I strongly recommend Something Old, Something New. Each song has something to offer anyone with a big heart, a reflective soul, and a love of music.

A soul moving performance by a wonderful friend
I hope Jan will be glad to hear from me. She knows the power her music had over us.I am sure this CD has over time, touched the soul and hearts of many romantics throughout the world with its depths and range of heart melting sounds especially, I Love You Tonight, which brings tears of joy and sadness to those in or out of love or those missing their loved one. Or She Was a Dreamer which pierces the hearts of all that loved their mothers, especially if their mother has gone to her maker. Performers of this caliber are few, but can have far reaching effect from their efforts to fill the world with song. They should choose wisely the type of music that fills the heavens with song. Imagine the impact this artist would have if she lent her voice back to the heavens with spiritual songs. This suggestion might enlighten the earth but also fill the void in perhaps her heart and others. This is an AMAZING CD.
