Album Notes
“Miss Daley has taken our favorite Christmas Standards and created her own fresh arrangements and made this ‘one original album.’ When you hear “The Best Gift” you get chills, knowing this one is truly from the heart. Miss Daley was told she would never have children, because of cancer, then gave birth to her miracle baby girl. You can see why she choose this song. "There's Nothing Like Christmas," a song she wrote that sets up not only "The Christmas Waltz" but also the entire album. The music she writes reveals a woman who is comfortable enough in the complexity of her personality and experience to reveal her many moods. She is in turn wistful, melancholy, reflective and playful. Her artistry draws you into each song and invites you to experience your own special moments once again in Craig Garfinkle's orchestration of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "First Noel" and to top it off with the fabulous "Grown-up Christmas List," which Miss Daley gets to use her powerful chest voice. Who would have ever thought of "The Christmas song" as a Bossa Nova, Miss Daley did, and it is just wonderful with Nate Light on bass! The bluesy, jazzy version of "Winter Wonderland" you won't want to miss with Funky bluesy touch of David Cohen on piano, but if you're sentimental about Christmas, listen to the Alan and Marilyn Bergman/Johnny Mandel new song, "The Christmas Love Song, beautiful! Misha Segal has a way with ballads and his lush orchestrations and thanks to Miss Daley's silky voice "I'll Be Home For Christmas," is another winner. But "O Holy Nigh" you will never hear it like this, either. Through her mastery of voice, mood and timing, Jan gives us music that resonates with our own experiences and her own original, "Can't Give You Any Answers," even unites us in our common humanity--and that is what art is about. Take time to appreciate this album as you would a fine red wine – you have to let it breathe." Los Angeles Times "Jan Daley is a rare combination. She brings to her songs a freshness and conviction that are all but transforming. She is not a carbon copy of anyone, and hopefully she will find an ever-widening audience." Alan Rock, WUCF/FM Orlando "Elegant voice”. It’s a joy to listen to." Rob Lester Talkin' Broadway "The two extremes of creamy head voice high notes and some nice burnished low notes are striking” Jim Raposa, Raposa Media Woodstock, GA "This CD is music as we remember it--melodic and engaging. Amazon ..Jan Daley's voice has a clarity and purity that is unusual in music today." Steve Tyrell "I've been a fan of Jan Daley for years. Her new album is a masterful jazz vocal album beautifully performed."
