Home Again

by Jan Spencer

Fans say she has a voice like warm chocolate. They describe her musical style as Bill Withers meets Roberta Flack or Jill Scott meets Cassandra Wilson. Yet, she is said to have her own, unique style...smooth & jazzy with just a bit of sass.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I am a Detroit native who currently lives on a "sultry" South Carolina Sea Island. I moved to the south hoping slow down, warm up and get in touch with my authentic musician self. My and musical training and artistic evolution has included influences of classical piano, classic and contemporary jazz vocalists and the great R&B music of the the 60's and early 70's. Hailing from Detroit, Motown was also a major factor in shaping my musical tastes and direction.

It has taken much longer than I expected to find and get comfortable with my unique voice and expression as a singer/songwriter. I'm happy to say that in this collaboration with my incredible producer, Daryl Horne, I have managed to do both. Fans are saying that I have become a whole new kind of singer with this new project...confident, inspiring, masterful! Seeing as how this is the kind of singer I came south hoping to develop into, I am deeply appreciative of these comments from my fan family.

The four songs on this CD came into being out of my life experiences but seem to find agreement in the hearts and experiences of other people too.

The first song, Home Again, is a love song that celebrates the joy of finding a place in the heart of that special someone. Song 2, the vocal version of Grandmother We Will Miss You, is a love song that celebrates life of my precious grandmother. As I it sing for audiences, I find that so many people's lives have be positively, if not profoundly influenced and touched by the magic of their grandmother's love. The third cut on the CD is the instrumental version of song 2. I use it to perform the "Grandmother Song" when I am not at the piano, but the music is so beautifully done my fans and I love it just because it is what it is. The final song, South Carolina Breezes, is a love song to and about my adopted home state of South Carolina. It celebrates some of both the joys and frustrations of living in this beautiful place.

All are songs from my heart to yours - Enjoy!
