Jarrec R. McCarter is a proud Air Force “military brat” that has travelled and lived all over the world. This nomadic lifestyle helped structure his Jesus centric, non-denominational spiritual outlook and exposed him to all types of music. His mother and father (lovers of music and artistic expression) formed his dynamic artistic palette. Music from Kenny G, The Temptations, Michael Jackson, The Winans, The Hawkins, and many others were often played thru out the house. As a teenager he could often be found rummaging thru his fathers album collection playing Teddy Pendergrass, The Gap band Earth, Wind and Fire, The Jackson 5 etc… The musical genres that gripped his heart ultimately were gospel and Hip Hop.
Run DMC, Tribe Called Quest, Tupaq, Diddy, LL Cool J, and Common would alternate with Fred Hammond, John P. Kee and Donald Laurence. Jarrec would watch “Yo MTV Raps” and get just as excited about Bobby Jones Gospel. These worlds would collide when Kirk Franklin & God’s Property released “Stomp featuring Salt”. Kirk showed him that it was o.k. to love the Lord with a Hip Hop swag.
Over the years he would scribble unfinished rhymes on scratch pieces of paper, take a D.J. class and eventually connect with gospel rapper J. Black. Occasionally travelling with Black and studying his rhyming ability, balanced with his passionate relationship for Christ, constructed a fire ready to be lit. In 2011 during an annual church fast, Jarrec’s wife (frustrated by years of unfinished rhymes) lit his flame with these words, “Finish a song Negro!” One year later, Rehobeth records presents “ECLECTIC”.
Jarrec is blissfully married to Tara McCarter and they have been blessed with 3 beautiful children. He received an Air Force ROTC scholarship while attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In 1999 he received a B.A. in Communications/Mass Media Broadcasting and had a successful 6 year military career as an Air Force Officer (separated the Air Force as a Captain/veteran of “Operation Enduring Freedom”).
For the past six years he, his wife, and extended family have labored in building God’s kingdom on the gulf coast at Victory International Christian Center, Ocean Springs, MS.
