"Is that your real voice?"
The question most often asked of Jarrod Spector at the stage door of the Broadway smash hit JERSEY BOYS inspired this collection of inarguably great, feel-good rock and pop classics covering every decade since the 1950s. Highlighted by Spector's signature Frankie Valli-esque falsetto and remarkable pitch and control, tunes by artists as wide-ranging as The Skyliners ("Since I Don't Have You), Led Zeppelin ("Rock and Roll") and Adele ("Turning Tables") take on new life and new sound in these reincarnations. The songs themselves were assembled to represent Spector's musical background and upbringing, showing the influences from birth to present that developed his musical identity and vocal personality, as he says, "for better or worse." The top-notch musicians shine through on every track, particularly the Bobby Darin throwback "Splish Splash", with searing guitar riffs and a full, bombastic horn section leaping out of the speakers. It is readily apparent that this fun-from-beginning-to-end album is as close to "live" as a studio recording can get.
