Album Notes
Here is "Envisage," first time on CD! Documenting the Classic Piano Trio of Jay D'Amico, Milt Hinton and Bob Rosengarden.

"Jay D'Amico plays piano with a gossamer touch, canny sense of style, and nicely connected ideas. Not only do his lines flow legato, but there is a certain shapeliness to each solo and a tangible sense of touch, like good sculpture. D'Amico affords each piece a polished conception: you can follow the thread through the arranged fabric." (Bouchard, "DownBeat Magazine")

"This CD was recorded in 1982 and released as an album the following year. The sound is warm-likely a result of the equipment used back in those days but also a reflection of the deep feelings of camaraderie felt among the three musicians. And the music stands up. It is as fresh today as it was in the early 80's. Seasoned veterans Hinton and Rosengarden provide the solid rhythm so necessary to a debut album. Jay uses it to full advantage. He is versatile, he is sensitive, and he swings." (David G. Berger)

"Excellent piano playing . . . improvisation is original, creative, clever and yet, still retains musicality as opposed to cliches - a trap that some of the big-name piano players fall into." (Charlie Ventura, Jr.)

"With "Envisage," a direct example of Jay's 'feel' and easy connection with the highly noted members of the trio, bassist Milt Hinton and drummer Bob Rosengarden, we hear the communication that is the nexus of jazz ensemble performance providing an effortless listening experience." (Michael Carlson)

Brilliant arrangements of Jazz classics with outstanding performnces
Milt Hinton and Bobby Rosengarten have been on stars in the Jazz genre for a long time, and have played with the best. For them to want to accompany Jay D'Amico on Envisage is a great tribute to Jays' awesome talents as a pianist and arranger. To take an old chesnut like "Autumn Leaves", which has been recorded so many times, and make it fresh, exciting, and really swing is no small accomplishment. To my great surprise, it turned out to be one of my favorite tracks. The title track Envisage, an original composition by Mr. D'Amico is brilliant. This is a fresh, exciting CD, with virtuoso perfomances from two jazz legends with lyrical and brilliant arrangements from Jay D'Amico. Jay is a consummate artist and an outstanding pianist with flawless technique. This is a recording that will appeal to all jazz aficionados, not only to people who enjoy refreshing new versions of old standards. Jazz Legends Milt Hinton and Bobby Rosengarten play off Jays' lyrical and virtuoso skills as a pianist, so this CD really swings. The quality of the mixing and recording is excellent. Purchase this CD - you will never regret it.
